Unum is partnering with Women Returners to provide opportunities within their IT Division for Software Engineers. Applicants with a career break of 18 months or more will benefit from Career Returners Coaching Support provided by Women Returners. You may have been working on a small-scale basis to fit around your other commitments or have not carried out any paid work for a number of years.

About Unum

Unum is one of the UK’s leading employee benefits providers. They’ve been around for 50 years, currently protecting over 1.7 million people, providing security and peace of mind to individuals and their families. With a Fortune 500, US parent company, they’re part of highly successful global organisation, sharing ideas and innovations across teams to create a collaborative work environment. They are transforming their business, and they’re keen to increase their digital capabilities to evolve the way they work and optimise opportunities for growth.

Opportunities available

The IT Division at Unum is currently building their team and they are looking for Junior and Senior Software Engineers.

They have fantastic opportunities for individuals who are looking to return to their software development career after a break, and who would like the opportunity to develop into full-stack developers, but who are happy to learn a low code platform.

You will be provided with full training and support and given the opportunity to get involved in lots of projects to give you a solid grounding and build up your technical skills, as well as jump straight into some of their continuous improvement initiatives.

You will be joining Unum at an exciting time as they implement new systems and integrate them with existing systems, as well as moving some of their legacy platforms to the cloud – helping them on their journey to change the way in which we transact business in the digital age.

Knowledge of some of the following would be greatly beneficial; ideally, you will have a few years’ experience, even if your current knowledge is a little outdated:

  • C#, the .Net Framework, and SQL
  • Front End technologies like css, html, javascript
  • SOAP and REST based Web Services
  • Azure technologies
  • Agile Development Methodology
  • Business Process Management Systems
  • Systems Integration
  • Robotic Process Automation

What they are looking for

Really important for these roles is your attitude: you must be self-motivated and eager to learn. You will be someone who has great communications skills, can work well with others but also be inquisitive enough to investigate and find some answers for yourself.

Flexibility

You’ll have the flexibility to work remotely and where you locate for your day, whether that be working from home, the office or somewhere else to get the job done. Their offices are in Basingstoke and Dorking. They anticipate your attendance to an office to be around 2 days per month.

They are able to offer these roles full-time, part-time (min 3 full days per week or school hours over 5 days), or job share.

What they are offering

Unum is passionate about their employee health and wellbeing and providing a work-life balance that suits you. Benefits include a discretionary bonus, 24/7 health support services (including a remote GP), income protection, health cash plan, 27 days annual leave, opportunities to participate in charitable events and more.

However you see your future career, they will support and challenge you to be your best with a wealth of learning and development opportunities.
