They’ve been around for 50 years, currently protecting over 1.7 million people, providing security and peace of mind to individuals and their families. With a Fortune 500, US parent company, they’re part of highly successful global organisation, sharing ideas and innovations across teams to create a collaborative work environment. Opportunities available

The Claims Division at Unum is currently building their team and they are looking for Claims and Senior Claims Assessors.

Their Claims Assessors are responsible for the proactive management of either group income protection or life and critical illness claims. You’ll investigate claims through medical and policy information, reach a decision as to initial and continued liability.  You’ll communicate claims decisions clearly and assist claimants in returning to their normality, providing the financial security and customer support to enable their customers to focus on recovery.

You’ll be responsible for a portfolio of claims clients, with a value in the £millions, typically dealing with Senior Executives, such as CEO’s and HR Directors as part of your relationship management; no two days are the same.

Senior Claims and Claims Assessors

As a Senior Claims Assessor, you will have a proven background in Income protection, life of critical illness assessment, and as a Claims Assessor you may have a Medical, Life, Health, PPI or General Insurance background, or perhaps you have graduated with a psychology degree or something similar.

What they are looking for

You will be someone who is interested in medical conditions, who is naturally curious and who can demonstrate analytical thinking.  You’ll have an investigatory mindset, where you can look at patterns and spot consistencies, and make autonomous decisions under pressure.

Strong technical skills with analytical thinking. You will be great on the telephone, with an ability to form compelling written reports and be confident to present your findings. You’ll be a team player who can deal with conflict and develop effective relationships with key stakeholders.

Flexibility

You’ll have the flexibility to work remotely and where you locate for your day, whether that be working from home, the office or somewhere else to get the job done.  Their offices are in Basingstoke and Dorking. Initially you will need you to come to an office for training, but after that Unum anticipate your attendance to an office to be around 2 days per month.

Their preference is full-time (36.25 hours per week), but they are open to considering part-time and flexible working patterns.  As a minimum this will be an average of 6 hours per day, or 4 days a week.  During your initial training period they may need you to temporarily increase your hours so that you can get up to speed and enjoy the role as quickly as possible.

What they are offering

Unum is passionate about their employee health and wellbeing and providing work-life balance that suits you. Benefits include a discretionary bonus, 24/7 health support services (including a remote GP), income protection, health cash plan, 27 days annual leave, opportunities to participate in charitable events and more.

However you see your future career, they will support and challenge you to be your best with a wealth of learning and development opportunities.
