Starling Bank is launching their second returner programme with exciting opportunities in Tech and Engineering, Banking, Corporate Functions and Operations. The programme is targeting experienced professionals looking to return to work after an extended career break of 18 months or more.

What you can expect

  • The programme offers a professionally paid placement of 6 months starting in Spring 2023, with the strong possibility of an ongoing role at the end of the assignment.
  • Positions are for professional level roles across the bank and will be located in London, Cardiff, Southampton or Dublin (locations for each division are listed below).
  • In addition to the Career Returners Coaching Programme support you will receive from Women Returners, Starling will partner you with a mentor and buddy to support your return to work and help you to develop your internal professional network.
  • Flexible working options are available depending on the role.

During your career break you may have been working on a small-scale basis to fit around your other commitments or have not done any paid work for a number of years.  Applicants must have the right to work in the UK.

Opportunities on the programme

Technology and Engineering – Cardiff, London, Southampton or Dublin

They are looking for fantastic technologists from a variety of backgrounds and with a range of skills to join a dynamic and agile team of technologists, entrepreneurs, designers, brand and customer experts with a flat structure in building a next generation bank. They currently have roles available across:

  • Engineering
  • Security
  • Data

Requirements:

  • A can-do attitude, belief in Starling’s vision, and a willingness to roll-up your sleeves and get stuck into anything and everything
  • Their main hiring priorities are currently engineering, data and security – they don’t have a long list of requirements where specific skills and experience are concerned – instead, all that they ask is that you are a skilled, caring, invested and passionate technologist!

Banking – London, Cardiff or Southampton

The Banking team designs and implements the right support for their personal and business customers and ensure they meet the needs of their growing customer base and product suite. You will help them build the bank – ensuring they can support new products and manage the complexities that come with rapid growth.

The role will be a mix of operations, strategy, analysis and project work to support Starling’s customers and the growth of their business. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn and make an impact quickly with the strong possibility of a permanent role at the end of the placement.

Requirements:

  • Banking or commercial / business, project management, consultancy, fintech or other start-up experience preferred
  • Customer-centric problem solver with can-do attitude
  • Passionate about building a better banking offering
  • Strong process and analytical mindset
  • Outstanding communication skills both verbal and written
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment and quickly adapt to change
  • Good understanding of banking customer needs preferred

Corporate Functions – London, Cardiff or Southampton

The Corporate Functions cover a wide range of teams, including Risk and Compliance, Finance, People (Human Resources), Legal, Facilities and more. The Corporate Functions will continue to grow to support the expansion of their business, so they are always looking for talent to join them!

  • Experience in a Corporate Functions role, ideally within the banking or FinTech space (Corporate Functions include Risk and Compliance, Finance, People (Human Resources), Legal, Facilities and all other central services)

Learning & Development Assistant – Cardiff

The People team deals with all aspects of their employee journey – talent acquisition, employee onboarding, talent management, total rewards and employee experience and culture.

They are dedicated to finding fantastic people and creating an enjoyable working environment where employees can thrive, grow and develop (plus all the legal/regulatory stuff underpinning that). To support their growth, they are now looking to grow their Learning and Development team.

This role is responsible for managing the scheduling of training and supporting the delivery of other activities associated with talent, learning & development and inclusion.  Key responsibilities include:

  • Manage the scheduling of training including but not limited to induction, core customer skills, people skills and management capability.
  • Work in partnership with the L&D team, to ensure training records are managed appropriately and ensure they’re stored correctly.
  • Manage the feedback process, identify themes and areas for improvement.
  • Activities will include creating the annual training timetable, working with the T&L Advisor to ensure events are created on the LMS, manage diary invites and all other logistics for participants as appropriate.
  • Manage room bookings either internal or external venues if appropriate.
  • Support the broader T&L team on additional project areas as appropriate including talent, leadership / management development and D&I.

Requirements:

  • Experience of operating in an L&D team ideally
  • L&D / Training administration experience is essential
  • Experience of working with G-Suite
  • Excellent administration skills, attention to detail, planning, communication and collaboration skills
  • Project experience also helpful
  • Excellent MS Office / G-Suite Skills

Operations – Cardiff or Southampton

Starling Bank is open to candidates with different operational backgrounds and focus.   • Demonstrating strong People and Operational Leadership skills
  • Positively influencing and contributing to the team culture
  • Actively improving the customer journey and customer satisfaction
  • Proactively seeking solutions to potential issues and making recommendations for improvement
  • The ability to accurately report and analyse data, particularly net promoter scores (NPS), in order to make recommendations and improvements
  • The ability to deliver results and work effectively in a rapid growth organisation

Requirements:

  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Experience working at management level in an Operations Team
  • Knowledge of process improvement in relation to the Customer Experience/Customer Journey
  • Business Acumen and the ability to use and analyse data in order to make recommendations.
