Handelsbanken’s Returners Programme is a 6-month paid return to work opportunity to support individuals looking to re-invest in their career, who have an aspiration to develop into a leadership role and have been out of the workplace for 18 months or more.

Through this programme, Handelsbanken hopes to create a pathway for passionate and dedicated professionals to re-enter the workplace within the branch network, to utilise their current skillset, develop new skills, and grow within a truly inclusive team environment.

The programme will commence on 11 September 2023 and applications will open on 25 April.

Join Handelsbanken at their launch events

Handelsbanken is offering two opportunities to hear more about the programme, recognising that you may prefer a virtual event or you may wish to come and meet them in person.

The virtual event will be on Tuesday 25 April (10:00-12:00) and the in-person event will be on Thursday 27 April (10:00-13:00), Handelsbanken, London, E1W 1WY.

The content of the information shared on the programme will be the same at both events.  However, at the in-person event you will also have the opportunity to meet with Handelsbanken employees.  Note: the virtual event will not include networking opportunities but you will be able to ask your questions via the chat function.

At the events you will have the opportunity to:

  • Hear from their Deputy CEO and Chief Branch Officer about why this programme is important to Handelsbanken
  • Find out more about the programme and the support you’ll receive during your returnship
  • Hear from the District Heads and Branch Managers at Handelsbanken about opportunities available on the programme
  • Benefit from a Women Returners return-to-work support workshop
  • Meet with Handelsbanken employees (in-person event only)

What does the programme offer?

The roles available as part of the returners programme will be for non-certified Corporate Banking Managers or Private Banking Managers, in a selection of branches across their London, South East and Surrey districts.

The successful candidates will be responsible for the maintenance and development of a small corporate or private banking customer portfolio.

You will have responsibility for all aspects of the client relationships, including building relationships with existing, new and prospective customers.

In addition to the work associated with your role, Handelsbanken will provide a full package of support including coaching from Women Returners, mentoring, leadership development, training to enhance technical skills, networking opportunities and general guidance to help support with re-entering the workplace.

There will be the potential for a permanent offer of employment after successfully completing the 6-month programme.

Handelsbanken is open to discussing the possibility of flexible or hybrid working.

Who is the programme aimed at?

This programme is open to anyone who is seeking to return to work after taking a career break, and wishes to reignite and refresh their financial services / banking sector experience in a structured and supportive environment.
