Whatever your background, if you’re a person who’s great at building relationships, then you could become a Client Manager at Baillie Gifford. Following a career break, this two-year programme is an opportunity to refresh your existing skills while learning new ones. Financial services experience isn’t necessary, just a curiosity about the world around you and a real passion for learning new things.

What Baillie Gifford can offer you

The two-year Client Manager programme includes a comprehensive induction to the firm and the investment management industry, as well as full support to study for professional qualifications. Throughout the programme you’ll receive on-going training and support, such as mock client meetings and practice pitches, as well as the opportunity to move between different teams. There’s also the support of a dedicated mentor, who will be on hand to offer guidance and answer any questions.

The role

On completion of the two-year programme, you will continue as a Client Manager in the firm and become a hub of communications between clients and the business. You’ll explain investment strategies to new and existing clients, as well as communicate the performance of Baillie Gifford’s funds. So, you’ll be expected to stay abreast of trends and ideas, as well as keep up-to-date with Baillie Gifford’s investment strategies.

When clients come to you with their bespoke requirements and queries ­– you’ll work closely with internal teams to find the solution. All of which will help you develop your existing client relationships into new opportunities.

Financial services experience isn’t required, as they’re looking for people from a wide range of backgrounds. However, there are some key attributes that will help you flourish as a Client Manager. These include the ability to build rapport with people easily, a flexible attitude that’s open to new ideas and solutions, and the ability to interpret complex ideas and information. Intellectual curiosity is key, as you’ll be expected to learn about different investment strategies and keep abreast of world events.
