Are you ready to restart your career and Connect for Good? Return to work with BT and help them build the future
BT is partnering with Women Returners to offer supported hiring opportunities for roles in their Legacy Closure and Managed Data Services Teams. They are looking for a Senior Transformation Manager, two Project Managers and a Project Management Office Specialist and welcome returner candidates to apply for these roles.
A successful returner candidate, who has had a career break of 18 months or more, will receive coaching support through the transition period from Women Returners. Your career break may have been for childcare, eldercare, relocation or other reasons. You may have been working on a small-scale basis to fit around other commitments or not done any paid work for a number of years.
Opportunities Available
BT is committed to the development of all of its people – for them it is will over skill – so if you have a passion for the field but only some of the skills below, they would still love to hear from you. BT is committed to flexible working and making a role work for the best individual.
Legacy Closure Team
The team is currently delivering one of the biggest migration plans ever undertaken, the move from legacy networks to IP voice. BT’s legacy voice and access platform, the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN), dates from 1980 and is nearing the end of its lifecycle. The enormity of this undertaking is why the Legacy Networks Closure Programme exists. These roles are critical to the successful delivery of this programme and BT’s continuing commitment to connect for good. Without its network, key services would not function: NHS, emergency services, air traffic control to name a few.
Project Manager (Birmingham)
The Legacy Closure Project Manager will manage and own the plans to clear, decommission and depower physical network elements, creating re-cycle, re-use, and re-sell opportunities, enabling exchange closures. This will be in parallel to customer migrations, working with operational teams across Networks and Customer Facing Units (CFU’s).
What BT would love you to bring to the role:
- A great attitude
- A thirst to drive change and excel
- Great communication skills – the ability to simplify complex messages so they are understood from MD level down
- A strong track record of leading programmes or projects across large geographically spread teams without direct line management of those individuals
- Empathy – you are the type of leader who always listens
- Experience of creating engaged teams who believe in BT’s future and vision
- Enough technology awareness to make your skills relevant to this space
- A focus on outcomes and a goody bag of project management techniques, tools, experience to help teams to continuously improve their performance. This includes but is not limited to risk and issue management and an ability to manage complex and multi-dimensional dependencies across programme milestones and activities
- Resilience – you face into the hard things to improve things for the business and those around you
- An awareness of agile ways of working. For you agility is not only about software delivery, but how to work together and plan for the future
- Qualifications in project management would be an advantage
Project Management Office Specialist (Birmingham)
The Project Management Office Specialist will support the Legacy Networks Closure Programme Team to effectively execute the programme: tracking the status of programme deliverables and milestones; supporting the adoption of the project lifecycle and deliverables; providing programme level risk and issue coordination; monitoring the status of projects; coordinating the regular project and programme level reporting cycles; co-ordinating project Governance arrangements and conducting Programme level workshops.
What BT would love you to bring to the role:

- High level of confidence, be able to demonstrate initiative and can work flexibly within the team to ensure that they are focused
- Enough technology awareness to make your skills relevant to this space
- A focus on outcomes and a goody bag of techniques, tools, experience to help teams to continuously improve their performance
- Resilience – you face into the hard things to improve things for the business and those around you
- An awareness of agile ways of working. For you agility is not only about software delivery, but how to work together and plan for the future
- Qualifications in project management would be an advantage

About BT
BT has a key role in British society, fostering change and leading technology innovation. From delivering the Olympics, to supporting the emergency services, to investing more into research than any other UK technology company, they take pride in everything they do – and in the people who work there. They’re now a global company operating at the forefront of the information age, employing 90,000 people in 180 countries. And they’re on a mission. Guided by their core values of Personal, Simple and Brilliant their goal is to help customers, communities and businesses overcome barriers and release their potential. So, if you’re interested in the power of potential, why not join them today and release yours?
BT’s mission is to break down the barriers of today to release the potential of tomorrow. Join them today and release yours. There are two things that they want to share with anyone considering joining them.
Firstly, they’ve got big ambitions for their colleagues and the future of the organisation. These include their vision that inclusion and accessibility drive every conversation they have and every decision they make. They want their workforce to fully represent the communities and customers they serve, because a diverse business is a better business. They value every colleague, their diversity and the contribution that they make. When they say you’re welcome at BT, they really mean it.
Secondly, the one thing the pandemic has taught them is that a lot of current and future colleagues, where and when possible, want to embrace hybrid working. Therefore, they are introducing smart working at BT. Smart working means having the flexibility to choose, as a team, how and where you work depending on your team’s deliverables and needs; when you are at your shared core location to connect with others and when not. It may not be for every role, and, as part of the recruitment process, you’ll have the chance to discuss smart working and how it might work for the job you are applying for.
